Student Bus Leaders
Students riding our longest bus routes have the opportunity to be selected as student Bus Leaders. Bus Leaders work with the bus driver, school staff, and students on the bus to better ensure a safe, calm, and peaceful ride. Our student Bus Leaders attend quarterly trainings. They are taught skills to help build relationships with students on the bus and to lead by example. Responsibilities extend from greeting students each day leaving school to helping at the bus stop. Since implementing our student Bus Leader program on 2 of our buses we have seen a dramatic decrease in behavioral referrals as well as reports of more enjoyable rudes from drivers and students. We appreciate our bus leaders so much!
5th Grade Student Helpers
Fifth grade students get the opportunity to rotate through morning and afternoon jobs such as American flag helpers, carpool helpers, bus flag helpers, and watering the plants and flowers in our bins out front. They are also asked on occasion to come and help open doors and pass out flyers on special event nights at the school.
4th Grade Student Recycling Helpers
Our fourth grader team has taken over the responsibility of our weekly recycling program. Each week students work together to collect all recycling bins from classrooms and empty them into our large bins for pick up.
Student Voice Team
A new team comprised of a small group of students and staff who will be having conversations about inclusion and acceptance, including what these things look like in our community. We spend time talking about ways we can make Salem more inviting and open to everyone!
